Not a pretty sight!

This is the view of the paper and cardboard recycling area near the Village Hall and the Library - and it's none too picturesque. According to the Parish Council office this morning it's emptied twice a week but if this has been emptied in the last few working days then we're remarkably diligent in this community about recycling, which is good but some of us lack common sense.

[..more..]

Why would people bring their old boxes and paper and just leave it for someone else to deal with? The next time the container is swapped for an empty one, is it part of the driver's job to put other people's detritus in the new container? What if it rains heavily and there's a soggy mess to clear up?

Some of us bring our recycling while on foot and might suffer minor inconvenience in having to take it home again on finding the container full, but for those in a car, leaving their contribution in the boot a few days until their next visit doesn't seem much to ask.

If twice-weekly collections are insufficient this may need revising. It could be that some collections have been missed. Of course this may just be seasonal problem as people clear out the packaging from Christmas-related purchases, but still, a little consideration wouldn't hurt before dumping.

Your comments please.

All tidy now

Apparently it's clean and tidy now (Fri 13th Jan) so it's been emptied and people's mess has been cleared up.
