Chitty Chitty Bang Bang joins the Fun at 2014 Corfe Mullen Carnival

Corfe Mullen Carnival is almost here once more and this year it promises to be a great event. Now in its 48th year, Carnival 2014 will be raising funds for the Wessex Cancer Trust, the Corfe Mullen Scout Association and Bournemouth Multiple Sclerosis.

This year’s event got underway in March, with the selection of Jenna Hughes as Carnival Princess. Jenna and her attendants will take part in the street procession on Saturday 14th June and, on arriving at the recreation ground, will declare the carnival open by releasing 48 balloons – one balloon for each year that the carnival has been held in the village.

A collection will take place along the procession route, with the proceeds going directly to the nominated beneficiaries, so do come along and show your support and help us better last years collection.

Carnival activities commence on Thursday 12th June, with the annual Carnival Quiz which will be held at The Dorset Soldier from 7.30pm. Come along and test your knowledge. There are prizes up for grabs for Groups of five, all hoping to take the title of ‘Brain-Boxes of Corfe Mullen’.

Carnival Day, Saturday 14th June - The Highlights:
At the recreation ground
A fun filled afternoon with many side stalls and entertainment.
By popular demand Punch and Judy will present a number of shows throughout the afternoon.

We have the largest movable inflatable in Europe attending.
Main arena event will be the wonderful "Tigers Motorcycle Display Team".
There will be a static display of vintage cars at the recreation ground given by the Poole branch of the "3 Counties Vintage and Classic Car Club".
In addition we have best overall entry in the street procession, Children’s Fancy Dress Competition, presentation of prizes, the Grand Draw, Colouring Competition, not to mention the variety of stalls, food vendors, rides etc.

Judging of procession entries will take place at 1pm in Albert and Ivor Roads. At 1.30pm precisely, town crier, David Squire will get the proceedings under way with the traditional and very loud announcement for the procession to move off. This year’s procession will be as big as ever with a variety of floats, walking tableau and businesses taking part in addition there will be music provided by the Marching Bands during the 1 ¾ mile procession.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will travel through the procession and also be on display at the recreation ground.

As in previous years a trophy will be presented to the best decorated business premises on the Carnival route, this will be judged between noon and 1pm.
Please note that there will be road closures along the route, starting from Ivor Road, along Wareham Road and up to the recreation ground, from just before the procession starts at 1.20pm, until the last section reaches the recreation ground at approximately 2.50pm.

In addition to the above events, there will also be the Carnival Grand Draw, which has many fantastic prizes again this year. All the money raised will be going straight to our nominated beneficiaries. The Carnival Committee would like to express their sincere thanks to all business who kindly donated prizes. Tickets for the Grand Draw will be available at all activities during Carnival Week and from our sponsors Richards Estate Agents who have, again, kindly donated the main prize.

Tuesday 17th June is the 5km and Junior Run, held at the Recreation Ground. More details and entry forms can be found at www.cm5k.co.uk. The charities will also benefit from money raised at the Fun Run. This event is celebrating its 11th anniversary with the Carnival and is an increasingly popular feature of the activities. Those not partaking are encouraged to turn up to support the runners.
