Crematorium at Randalls Hill (Limberlost)

The plans to build a Crematorium at the Woodland Burial site at Randalls Hill, adjacent to the A350 at the Limberlost have reappeared.

The plans were passed by Purbeck District Council a couple of years ago, then subsequently overturned by the High Court at Judicial Review. The concerned residents thought the threat had gone away and are horrified to find an 'amended' plan has been reintroduced. The application is due to go before Purbeck District Council in July.

The area is just over the border in Purbeck thus we are not part of the decision making process and barely need to be informed. However, as Corfe Mullen is a mile downwind of the site it could be deemed to affect us more than residents of Purbeck.

The site is very close to the group of houses at the Limberlost.

Objections to the site include

  • in the Green Belt
  • increased traffic and problems on the A350 and the very narrow lane
  • proximity to dwelling houses
  • incompatible with the essence of a Woodland Burial Site with quiet space
and beautiful views over the harbour and the Purbecks
  • large expansion of buildings for both services and function rooms, and car park, incompatible with the Green Belt
  • barely 5 miles from Poole Crematorium at Gravel Hill. If there is need for another Crematorium in Dorset then closer to Dorchester, or in North Dorset would be more sensible places and give a better distribution
