Fight to Re-Open Gym Continues

Councillors Paul and Anne Holland have have been leading the fight to reopen the former Virgin Active Health Club.

“We have held talks with 3 gym operators,” said Cllr Paul Holland. “Vandalism of the building has occurred so we would urge residents to tell the police if they see anything suspicious.” “The owners want to build a dementia care home on the site but as long as we can prove that the health club is still required such change of use would be difficult to achieve," said Cllr Anne Holland.

At the Storytelling and African Drumming event on Friday 27th June, a number of young people listened to stories told by local storyteller Taprisha and learned rhythms and heard tales from Afric'Arts.

This event was organised by Lynda White and supported by Corfe Mullen Parish Council, as a prelude to the Sting in the Tale series of events to be held at various locations between East Dorset and Christchurch from 15th to 25th August. See website for more details: http://stinginthetale.org.uk

There was a barbecue with burgers and drinks supplied by Nigel and Jenny from the Youth Centre.

Three councillors (Chairman Evan Waterman and Paul and Anne Holland) represented the Parish Council and entered into the spirit of the event, including joining in the drumming class.

The free entry event, sponsored by Corfe Mullen Parish Council is one of a series of performances leading up to the Sting in the Tale Storytelling Festival, being held at a variety of venues between East Dorset and Christchurch from 15th to 25th August 2014.
